It was my birthday Monday and as reality kicked in and I realized I’m much closer to 30 than I am 20, I began to reflect on this past year. I found myself battling the feelings of defeat and failure while simultaneously feeling accomplished and satisfied. These feelings couldn’t be more opposite, so how is that possible?

Well, let’s be honest I'm a woman, every three seconds a different thought pops into my mind. On a more serious note, it’s possible because within each of us there is a battle being waged over the way we choose to view our lives.

I use the word choose intentionally because it is our choice, it’s our choice to see the good; the good ol’ glass half empty or full scenario. Some people, my husband included, have the gift of seeing everything half full, while others, myself included, have to work very hard to even see anything in that same glass.

I’ve struggled with feeling defeated lately, so much so that I had an entire post written up about it. It’s been sitting in my archives just waiting to be published. However, each time I went back to publish, a word kept ringing in my head.

Overcome, Overcome, Overcome

It became clear to me that God put that word on my heart and mind because He was trying to show me all the things I’ve overcome this year with His help.  Sometime I’ll share those things with you, but for now I want to encourage you to overcome too.

To the moms out there who feel like they’ve lost their identity somewhere between the dirty diapers and spit up, Overcome

To the woman who feels like she’s never good enough, Overcome

To those who feel trapped in their own bodies, Overcome.

To the self loathers, Overcome.

To the person drowning in self pitty, Overcome.

To the single girls letting your relationship status define you, Overcome.

To the bitter hearted, Overcome.

To the proud, Overcome.

To the jealous, Overcome.

To the discontent, Overcome.

Let this year be a year you’re proud to look back on, don't let your struggles define you.

Too often us girls whine about our responsibilities and build a bubble of martyrdom around us. It’s not helping anyone especially you! Choose to see the good!

"You're an overcomer
Stay in the fight ‘til the final round
You're not going under
‘Cause God is holding you right now
You might be down for a moment
Feeling like it's hopeless
That's when He reminds You
That you're an overcomer
You're an overcomer"

Until next time,
