Sometimes reality hits you right between the eyes and you can’t help but address your now throbbing head. That’s how I’ve felt these past two weeks.
I’ve finally had the chance to do some cleaning around the apartment and freshen up my decorating. It’s been wonderful, the place looks like spring has arrived. However, it’s only clean on the surface, the real mess is behind closed doors.
The closets… I don't know about you, but I have the hardest time keeping closets clean. It could be because we have three closets for everything we own, but it’s also because I have the ability to hide stuff in them. Anything I don’t have the time to put in its proper place can be pushed inside so it’s out of sight, and naturally, out of mind.
I had that reality check earlier this week when I opened my daughters closet only to be attacked by its contents. I had no choice but to make some changes; organize and declutter. As I sat there folding little girly clothes, I thought...My heart is kinda like this closet sometimes.
On the outside everything seems to be fine, but when I open my eyes to the reality of my heart it’s pretty messy. There are things I didn't have time to deal with that got shoved into a dark place. There’s bitterness that grows even after I thought its was dead. There are insecurities, self loathing, doubt, pride, envy, jealousy, fear, the list could go on I’m ashamed to say. The closet of my heart needs some cleaning. It needs some renewing, some purging, and some Jesus.
It’s time to clean the inside, and the first step in accomplishing that is to acknowledge the mess that it is. Maybe your heart needs some cleaning too. Perhaps you’ve been so focused on the outside you’ve forgotten about the things you’ve shoved away. Remember, man looks on the outside but God sees the heart 1 Samuel 16:7. Let’s clean up our hearts shall we ladies?!
